The industrial landscape of New York City has changed dramatically over the city's lifetime, as has the relationship between industrial centers and the neighborhoods that surround them. Faced with the challenge of ensuring the long term health of the city's industrial base while moving toward a green and sustainable future, New York's Industrial Business Zones (“IBZs”) are potentially situated to provide the base for a new resource economy. The NYU Wagner Capstone team is exploring this opportunity to provide recommendations for building local circular economies for construction and demolition waste. The five IBZs that are examined for this project are North Brooklyn in Brooklyn, Maspeth in Queens, Long Island City in Queens, Port Morris in The Bronx and West Shore in Staten Island.
